My Weekly Pull [50] & Can't Wait Wednesday [20]

My Weekly Pull is something I do every Wednesday to show which comics I had pulled for me that week! If you're into comics, or you're looking to start, please join me! If you decide to do your own post, there's a link-up at the bottom. I would love to stop by and check it out!

Uncanny X-Men #5 by Ed Brisson, R.B. Silva, Elizabeth Torque
Magic Order #5 (of 6) by Mark Millar, Olivier Coipel
Spider-Girls #3 (of 3) by Jody Houser, Andres Genolet, Yasmine Putri
X-Men Red #11 by Tom Taylor, Paolo Villanelli, Jenny Frison

Jacob's comics for the week!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Macro-Series #4 Raphael by Kevin Eastman, David Petersen, Ben Bishop
Hit-Girl #11 by Rafael Albuquerque, Rafael Scavone,
Amazing Spider-Man #11 by Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 by Saladin Ahmed, Javi Garron, Brian Stelfreeze
Peter Parker The Spectacular Spider-Man #313 by Sean Ryan, Juan Frigeri, Philip Tan

I'm really enjoying Uncanny X-Men! There have been a lot of unexpected twists and turns, so I honestly have no idea what's going to happen next. The last issue ended with a boom, and I'm excited to see where the story will go from here!

Magic Order took a few months off, which was incredibly frustrating. Why would they break after the fourth issue? There are only two left!  As for the series itself, it's one of the darkest I've ever read. However, despite is gruesomeness, it's a really interesting story.

Spider-Girls is on its third and final issue, and I'm really looking forward to it! Since there were so few issues, a lot had to happen in a very short amount of time, but it hasn't felt rushed. I'm curious to see how all of the different Spiders come together to defeat the immortal vampires! (Apparently they only hunt Spiders from different timelines, and there aren't that many left.)

X-Men Red is always an enjoyable read! I'm not sure where the story will go after the last issue, but the world is in turmoil, and there are a lot of things that need to be addressed.

Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings, that highlights upcoming releases that we're anticipating and excited to read. It's a spinoff of the feature Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

The Sound of Drowning by Katherine Fleet
Expected publication: March 12th 2019
Synopsis (via Goodreads): Meredith Hall has a secret. Every night she takes the ferry to meet Ben, her best friend and first love. Though their relationship must remain a secret, they’ve been given a second chance, and Mer's determined to make it work. She lost Ben once before and discovered the awful reality: she doesn't know how to be happy without him…

Until Wyatt washes ashore―a brash new guy with a Texas twang and a personality bigger than his home state. He makes her feel reckless, excited, and alive in ways that cut through her perpetual gloom. The deeper they delve into each other’s pasts, the more Wyatt’s charms become impossible to ignore.

But a storm is brewing in the Outer Banks. When it hits, Mer finds her heart tearing in half and her carefully constructed reality slipping back into the surf. As she discovers that even the most deeply buried secrets have a way of surfacing, she’ll have to learn that nothing is forever―especially second chances.

This sounds like my kind of book!

  1. I love second chance stories and this one sounds wonderfully complex! I don't mind a well written love triangle and it sounds as though her relationship with Ben is more one of dependency than perhaps love. What a great choice Linds, really curious about this one now too!

    1. Love triangles are always hit-or-miss for me, but I have a feeling this one is going to be great! I want to know what those deeply buried secrets are... ;)

  2. The Sound of Drowning sounds good. And that cover looks so familiar! I feel like I’ve recently come across another book with a very similar cover but now I can’t place it. That’s going to drive me crazy... :)

    1. Oh! You're totally right! Now that you've mentioned it, I feel like I've seen something familiar as well. Hmm -- thanks a lot! Not it's going to drive me crazy, too! ;)

    1. I already want to know what "the most deeply buried secrets" are! Is that why she still feels connected to Ben? Do they share the same secrets? I feel like this story has the potential to be really interesting! Hopefully it delivers!

    1. Right?! My interest was piqued at the beginning, and by the end I was dying to know what their secrets were, haha. I hope we both really enjoy this one, Sam! Do you normally like books with love triangles, or do you try to avoid them?

    1. I'm starting to think everyone hates love triangles, or at the very least tries to avoid them. I don't mind them when they are done really well, but that doesn't happen very often. However, I think this one might be worth it! It sounds like there's a lot going on, secrets and such, that might impact her feelings for one over the other. I can't wait to find out!

  6. Hello! !
Today I decorated the Christmas tree. I really enjoyed it! Every year I get very excited, I decorate the Christmas tree and it begins to feel like Christmas. I think this year's Christmas tree is also very beautiful.

    1. Nice! We love going on walks to look at the lights in the neighborhood. We also have a live tree this year, so the house always smells wonderful!

  7. Hmmm, I feel inundated with love triangles recently so I's probably give Sound Drowning a miss. Love the cover art though!

    1. I normally avoid books with love triangles, although sometimes you don't know they're there, but I can get behind a well-written one. It seems like the main character in The Sound of Drowning has emotional ties to one, but feels really connected to the other. I'm curious if the hidden secrets are what keep her with Ben, and whether or not that impacts her relationship with Wyatt. I have a feeling this will be one worth reading! I can totally understand wanting to avoid a love triangle, though. :)

    1. I'm really enjoying X-Men Red, and Uncanny X-Men had a promising start! I'm looking forward to what Tom Taylor writes next (I believe the current arc just ended, unless something unexpected happens), and I have no idea what the X-Men are fighting in Uncanny X-Men. There have been a lot of twists so far, and no real answers. I also like that there are kids involved (students at Xavier's school that are training to become X-Men), because they offer a unique perspective that contrasts the X-Men we've known for years. You should definitely try it! :)

  10. I'm so glad Uncanny is off to a good start since I'm assuming it's the flagship X title now? Hopefully they can build a good run out of this beginning and really make it good. Hopefully X-Men Red can continue its story somewhere as well, unless they're folding it into Uncanny or a different title. Are there multiple X teams at the moment or do they just sorta rotate from book to book as the writers need em?

Spider Girls I don't know much about but vs vampires sounds pretty great!

    1. I honestly don't know! Something massive just happened, so we'll see where the story goes from here. I've always liked Magento, even if I thought his methods were extreme. He just wants to protect his people, and I can understand that. I really love the X-Men movies that show what Xavier and Magento were like when they were younger.

X-Men Red still seems to be its own thing. I don't think it's going to be absorbed by Uncanny X-Men, I think it's just starting a new arc.

Spider-Girls has been really great! I'm loving it! It's too bad there are only three issues. I'm curious if Jody Houser is going to write anything Spider-related after this. Her Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows is still one of my all-time favorites. :)

    1. It's a really dark series! There's only six issues, so it shouldn't take you too long to read through them. They took a small break between the fourth and fifth issues, but now there's only one left! I can't wait to see how this series ends.

  12. I haven't even heard about The Sound of Drowning but I need to know....why does her relationship with Ben have to remain a secret? I'm such a sucker for a vsynopsis that make me go WHY?! lol. I'll definitely be looking forward to your review of that book!

    1. Right?! I want to know what her connection with Ben is, and why it complicated things with Wyatt. Are they her secrets? His? Theirs? Haha -- I can't wait to figure it out! :)
